About the Work

Transformations: Fantasia on “Pange Lingua,” was commissioned and premiered by Douglas Cleveland for the 2024 American Guild of Organists convention in San Francisco. This three-part organ work focuses on various aspects of the chant text, translating them into musical ideas and exploring concepts such as hidden-to-revealed; transformations of bread-to-body, wine-to-blood, and old law-to-new rite; ending with a jubilant toccata focused on the words “praise, jubilation, salvation, honor, and blessing.”
